Starting Point Launches New Virtual Discussion Groups
The coronavirus epidemic has brought more than homeschooling and face masks into our lives; it has created stress for many people. Added stress, feelings of frustration and even anger are affecting the mental health of some people. It can be difficult to find the right person to talk to about these feelings, so the mental health professionals at Starting Point Behavioral Healthcare have created an innovative way to help.
Starting Point is offering a new series of virtual discussion groups called Being Well Starting Now. The online sessions will focus on mental health-related topics and will be free and open to anyone who wants to participate.
The first session will feature a discussion on Healthy Coping Mechanisms For Stress on June 30 starting at 6:30 p..m. Like an in-person group, everyone will be encouraged to participate with the help of a moderator who is also a mental health counselor. Participants will be encouraged to maintain confidentiality to allow everyone to take part fully.
“Starting Point has been offering discussion groups called Community Conversations that successfully engaged people around topics such as suicide prevention, autism, and other issues. Now, with the inability to get out and attend these kinds of events, we felt it was important to keep those dialogues going for our community,” said Starting Point CEO Dr. Laureen Pagel. “We created Being Well Starting Now to offer a safe space for people to talk about what is on their minds, how they are feeling, and how they are coping – but in a virtual environment that keeps everyone safe during the pandemic. We are excited about this new approach and will be working with the participants to design and refine the groups.”
