RESOLUTION 2016 – 113

A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PROCLAIMING SEPTEMBER 2016 AS MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID MONTH IN NASSAU COUNTY, FLORIDA.

WHEREAS, progress in our country in enacting the Mental Health First Aid Act of 2015 (S.711/H.R. 1877) and most recently the Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis Act 2016 (H.R. 2646), speaks volumes as to the importance and value of Mental Health First Aid to our community ‘s wellness; and

WHEREAS, the citizens of Nassau County will increase their knowledge of signs, symptoms, and risk factors of mental illnesses and substance abuse disorders in both children and adults  and  increase their confidence and the likelihood to help an individual in distress; and

WHEREAS, the citizens of Nassau County can  identify multiples types of professional and supportive resources for individuals with a mental illness or substance abuse disorder; and

WHEREAS, our community ‘s wellness is critical to the future success and growth by the implementation of the Mental Health First Aid Program which reduces the social  distance  created  by  negative  attitudes   and

perceptions of individuals with mental illnesses and substance abuse disorders; and

WHEREAS, the citizens of Nassau County have a responsibility to remain persistent in the charge to maintain emotional wellness in our communities by consistently pursuing awareness, by decreasing social distance, by assisting our neighbors, and providing the best care possible for all our citizens.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE  IT RESOLVED, by the Board of County

Commissioners of Nassau County, Florida, this 17th

Health First Aid Month in Nassau County.

  1. The Board hereby recognizes the efforts of local providers and professionals who provide treatment services, prevention, and support in Nassau County.
  2. The Board encourages the citizens of Nassau County to become familiar with the signs, symptoms, and risk factors associated with mental illness and substance abuse disorders and encourage someone in distress to seek help.
