New Mental Health Outpatient Clinic on the Island – Open House Recap and Explanation of Services

Ribbon Cutting

Yulee, Fla.: Starting Point Behavioral Healthcare held a ribbon cutting and interactive open house on Friday, January 13th, 2023, at their newly minted behavioral health outpatient clinic. The event drew participation from the organization’s staff and Board of Directors, Nassau County Chamber of Commerce, and key dignitaries Mayor Bradley Bean, City Commissioner David Sturges, City Commissioner Darron Ayscue, and County Commissioner John Martin. The event invited community members to take an inside look at the programs and services that operate out of the new Starting Point Island location.

“Thank you so much to everyone that came to support our expansion,” says Laureen Pagel, Chief Executive Officer at Starting Point Behavioral Healthcare. “The open house was a tremendous success. There was so much interest in the programs and services that we provide to our community. This new location will expand our partnership with Baptist Medical Center Nassau and offer our island residents a shorter commute.”

– Laureen Pagel, CEO, Starting Point Behavioral Healthcare

Starting Point Behavioral Healthcare works six days a week in the Baptist Nassau Emergency Department to help reduce recidivism for individuals who arrive in the ED due to mental health problems or alcohol and substance misuse.Called ‘Care Coordination’, the Care Coordinators refer the individuals to Starting Point mental health and substance use services. By reducing recidivism in the ED, the program frees up space in the hospital and saves the hospital and community tax dollars. It can also change the life trajectory for individuals who have repeat visits to the ED for the same problem. This is called a ‘wrap around’ service and its purpose is to successfully connect the individual to resources that will solve the route of the problem and help re-route them on a path to success.

The new location at 1541 S. 14th Street will also provide medication management as well as individual group and family therapy.
